"Fishman" Font - inspired by Hong Kong fishing heritage

Embracing the cultural significance of fishing harbours in Hong Kong's history, this project reimagines traditional elements, breathing new life into graphic design possibilities. Explore how "FISHMAN FONT" seamlessly merges the past with the present, reflecting the enduring connection between humanity and the sea.

Vitality distinguishes living beings from inanimate objects, with humans being reliant on water for sustenance. Just as the flow of water sustains life, fonts should imbue designs with the vibrancy inherent in human existence. FISHMAN FONT seeks to infuse font design with vitality by incorporating elements reminiscent of flowing water. Through the use of ellipses to conclude horizontal and straight strokes, the font's lines achieve a balance between rigidity and softness, evoking a dynamic energy within the humanistic aesthetic. This approach injects vitality into the design process, expanding the creative possibilities within graphic design.

Before Hong Kong became a metropolis, it was actually made up of a series of walled villages and fishing villages. It is said that the word "Hong Kong" came from Aberdeen when the port was opened, which shows how important fishermen are to our culture and identity.

Fishing harbours have changed with the times, but they still retain their rustic and charming atmosphere, telling a unique and interesting story of Hong Kong's history.

Looking at Hong Kong from the perspective of its labour force, Hong Kong people have always been accompanied by the sea. Putting drops of water into fonts and replacing history with Yue Wan fonts, we continue to move forward.
